San Jose Spiders News Release

SAN JOSE, CA - The SAN JOSE SPIDERS shocked the division leading COLORADO CHILL in a dramatic home upset tonight at DeAnza College. The SPIDERS used a quick 13-0 run to stun the CHILL and never let up. A seldom running game kept the visitors on their heels and helped San Jose overcome a strong return game from CHILL star Becky Hammon.

The SPIDERS came out with more confidence and poise than anytime this season. Their crisp passing and quick decision making kept Colorado guessing all night long. Coach Tracy Carpenter attributed the cohesive attack to a "great week of practice."

Although the win was a byproduct of a stellar team effort, forward Amisha Carter was the undisputed star of the game. Carter attacked with a ferocity not seen before, inspiring her team with her physical play. Carter finished with a game high 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Led by Carter's tenacious play the SPIDERS took a commanding 42-24 advantage on points in the paint. Only a barrage of CHILL three point shots kept the game close, the CHILL scored 24 points from behind the ark.

Olympiad Becky Hammon did her best to keep the CHILL in the game. Hammon used an impressive arsenal of shots and passes to slice her way thru an otherwise stalwart SPIDER defense, Hammon had 22 points and 8 assists.

The SPIDERS will have only a brief time to savor their victory as the team will fly to Colorado early tomorrow morning for a rematch with the CHILL at the Budweiser events center. There will be two more stops for the home town SPIDERS in Texas before the team returns to San Jose for a battle against Tamika Catchings and the Chicago Blaze on March 12th at 7:00 pm.
