Winding up their inaugural season strong, the San Jose Spiders gave their fans a treat, once again, defeating the league-leading Colorado Chill 75-63 on Sunday, March 27th at De Anza College in Cupertino. The victory marked the second in as many games, and three of the past 6 home games. The Chill head into the NWBL playoffs the #1 seed, ahead of the Dallas Fury, Chicago Blaze and Lubbock Hawks.
A relentless Spiders defense contained the Chill's outside game, allowing the Chill only 6 points from three-point range. The Spiders found several ways to open up opportunities outside the paint, mustering 21 points from three-point land. The Spiders dominated the outside game, shooting 50% on 3-pt FG, to the Chill's dismal 8.7%.
Amisha Carter racked up a double-double, piling up 14 points and 10 rebounds. Amanda Lassiter led the Spiders with 18 points, 15 of those in the second half. Andrea Garner was one rebound and one point shy of a double-double, contributing 9 points and 9 boards. Tera Bjorklund added 14 points in the win. Natalie Nakase led the game, fostering 5 assists.
Becky Hammon, who leads the league in scoring, averaging 23.2 points/game, amassed 24 points, leading the Chill. Perennial league MVP, Ruth Riley contributed 19 points and 9 boards.
The Spiders, for the second-consecutive game, out-rebounded their foe, 47-37, showing patience and high hopes for next year.
