Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release

BILOXI, Miss. – Charlotte defenseman Ryan Glenn netted a second period shorthand goal that would stand as the game-winner as the Checkers jumped the Mississippi Sea Wolves 3-2 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

"Going minus-one on the power-play is a big concern," Mississippi coach Bob Woods said. "That goal by Glenn was big. We can't give up goals like that if we want to be successful. Heading into the Christmas break, we are playing better hockey. Overall I think we've underachieved to this point but there are still a lot of games left to make some noise."

Charlotte (16-9-2, 34 points) got rolling offensively at the 3:11 mark. Matt Chandler sent a slapshot from the right circle past Jason Wolfe for his fourth goal of the season. Ryan Cuthbert and Rory Rawlyk picked up helpers.

Mississippi (11-11-3, 25 points) tied the score at 9:07. Jeff Hutchins netted his team-leading 13th goal of the season on a centering pass from Jay Legault, who extended his point streak to eight games. Travis Lisabeth also garnered a helper.

Just 46 seconds later, Nicolas Corbeil burst in on the right wing and blew a slapshot past Alex Westlund. The ninth goal of the campaign for Corbeil was assisted by Louis Dumont.

The Checkers knotted the score on the power-play at 15:22 of the first. Rookie Lee Falardeau on the edge of the crease cashed in his 10th goal of the season set up by Cuthbert, who collected his second assist of the game and Mike Harder.

Charlotte grabbed the lead on the penalty kill in the second period. Dusty Jamieson fed Glenn, who went forehand to backhand and deposited his second tally of the year at 13:18, giving the Checkers a 3-2 lead through two periods.

Westlund stepped up in the Charlotte net and turned away each of Mississippi's 15 shots in the third period to preserve the win.

Mississippi was unsuccessful on four power play opportunties, while Charlotte went 1-for-3 on the man advantage. Shots were tied 32-32.
