March 24, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers today announced plans for their first-ever Domestic Violence Prevention Night and their 10th annual Salute to Heroes game to take place this Friday, March 27, at 7 p.m. and this Sunday, March 29, at 1 p.m., respectively. The Checkers will take on the Lake Erie Monsters for both games.
Friday's Domestic Violence Prevention Night, presented by News-Talk 1110 WBT, is the first such event ever hosted by an American Hockey League team. A portion of ticket proceeds will benefit the Jamie Kimble Foundation for Courage, with fans encouraged to wear purple to support the cause and spread awareness.
During Sunday's Salute to Heroes event, the Checkers will honor those who serve, have served and have been injured or lost in the line of duty. Immediately following the Checkers' game, local public service workers will face off in a charity game pitting Charlotte Fire Department and Medic personnel against those from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Mecklenburg County Sheriff Office. A portion of the Checkers' ticket sales, which include free admission to the Heroes game, will benefit the families of injured and fallen public service workers from each organization.
The lights at Wells Fargo's Duke Energy Center in uptown Charlotte will be lit purple in support of Domestic Violence Prevention Night on Friday and red in support of Salute to Heroes on Sunday.
This week's games begin a six-game home stand for the Checkers that will mark their last-ever games at Time Warner Cable Arena. Season tickets for the 2015-16 season at Bojangles' Coliseum are available now at a reduced price.
