
Checkers Announce Changes in Hockey Operations

CHARLOTTE, NC-General manager and head coach of the Charlotte Checkers, Derek Wilkinson announced today the team has hired Donny White as its new head equipment manager, Teri LaSalle as head athletic trainer and Thomas Anderson as assistant equipment manager.
White joins the Checkers for his first full season as head equipment manager and will oversee the administration and organization of all aspects of equipment related to the team.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, White received a bachelor's degree from Southeastern Illinois College. He comes to Charlotte after working the past two seasons as head equipment manager for the Mississippi Sea Wolves, formerly of the ECHL. During the 2006-07 season, White was the assistant equipment manager for the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League. Prior to joining the Houston Aeros, White spent seven seasons with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the American Hockey League; five as a stick boy and two as an assistant equipment manager.
LaSalle, 44, returns to the Checkers for the 2009-2010 season as the head athletic trainer. She will be responsible for injury prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation for the team. She will also serve as the liaison between the coaching staff and other team healthcare providers.
A native of Hopewell Junction, New York, LaSalle is a graduate of Duke University with a bachelor of arts degree in human development and a master of science degree in physical therapy. She is a certified athletic trainer, licensed physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning specialist. LaSalle was the athletic trainer for the Jackson Bandits, formerly of the ECHL and the Columbus Cottonmouths of the Central Hockey League. She was with the Cottonmouths club that won the Levins Cup in 1998. LaSalle spent the 2002-2003 season as head athletic trainer with the Checkers. After leaving Charlotte, she became the head athletic trainer for the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League, making her the first female head athletic trainer in the AHL. Most recently she has been working with soldiers in basic combat training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
Anderson joins the Checkers for his first full season as assistant equipment manager and will assist the head equipment manager with the administration and organization of all aspects of equipment related to the team. Anderson is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and spent the past six seasons with the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL as a volunteer stick boy.
Wilkinson adds, "We are very excited to have this level of talent joining our Hockey Operations staff. Their abilities will help enhance the hockey experience in Charlotte."
The Checkers are getting ready for their 17th season of play as a member of the ECHL. In the team's 16-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 12 times including five consecutive playoff appearances to date.
