Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Derek Wilkinson, head coach and general manager of the Charlotte Checkers, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with Daymen Bencharski Rycroft. Rycroft is a center and is the second player to agree to terms with the Checkers for the 2006-07 season.
Rycroft, 5-foot-11-inch, 180-pound native of Beaverlodge, Alberta, skated in 54 regular season games last year with Rio Grande Valley of the Central Hockey League. He was the second-leading point scorer on the team, racking up 55 points (25g, 55a), and helped lead the Killer Bees to the playoffs.
"Daymen was the heart and soul of an excellent Rio Grande Valley team in the CHL last year," said Wilkinson. "We look for him to bring those same attributes to Charlotte this year."
Rycroft played his collegiate hockey at Ohio State University where he notched 61 points over a four-year career (31g, 30a). Roycroft is tied as the fourth all-time leader in postseason goals at Ohio State with five.
The Charlotte Checkers return for their second season at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season ticket packages are on sale now included a new Small Business Ticket Package.
