
Chavez, Tavarez Help New Hampshire Sink Sussex

AUGUSTA, N.J. - Zane Chavez went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored and Argenis Tavarez finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored to help power New Hampshire to a 5-4 win over Sussex on Sunday afternoon at Skylands Park.
Chavez smacked an RBI-single in the top of the seventh to snap a 3-3 game and give New Hampshire a lead it would not relinquish. Chavez put the American Defenders on the board in the top of the fourth with a solo homerun. Tavarez drilled a solo homerun in the top of the eighth to give New Hampshire a 5-3 lead.
Dave Wasylak picked up the win for New Hampshire after throwing an inning and giving up two runs on two hits. Lucas Ledbetter held the Skyhawks scoreless through the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the save. Alex Smith was saddled with the loss, giving up a run on two hits in one inning of work.
Mark Pappas was 3-for4 with two doubles and an RBI for Sussex in the loss.
Sussex opens up a rare five game series against Brockton at Skylands Park with a doubleheader on Monday. The first game is set to begin at 4:05 p.m., with Game 2 to follow. New Hampshire travels to play New Jersey on Monday in a 7:05 p.m. contest.
