Chavez Says Team Needs to Finish to Become More Successful

Louisville Lightning News Release
Louisville Lightning star Jerry Chavez has had a phenomenal season so far, and his two goals last weekend sparked the Lightning's 8-3 win over the Ohio Vortex. The former University of Louisville star recounted both of his goals after Friday night's big win, and Chavez also talked about what the team needs to do to improve.
"The first goal was pretty much a counter. We got caught down here at our end and [Darren] Yeagle just turned around and found me and I turned with the ball and just took off up the line. The goalie just went one way and I just kicked it straight since he moved early," Chavez said. He would strike again later to put the game out of reach for the Vortex. "In the second goal, Boyer found me running down the line. The ball went past me and hit the wall, but I just took my time and put in in," he recalled.
Despite the win, Chavez said the team is still not capitalizing on all of its opportunities. "Not finishing was our biggest problem tonight. That's been our problem all season. We got some goals today which made it better, but it's still been frustrating," he said.
The Lightning now face the Detroit Waza at Mockingbird this Friday night. The two teams have split their previous two meetings, with Detroit stealing a close victory in the second game of the season. Louisville then beat the Waza in Detroit in early January, and it's a victory that Chavez says helps boost the team's confidence. "We feel very confident, especially after we went up there and beat them at their place, and we feel like everyone will come out with a lot of intensity and be ready to play."
