Charlotte Welcomes ECHL Annual Meetings

(Charlotte, NC - Saturday, May 31, 2003) ECHL President / CEO Brian McKenna will lead a contingent of league officials, team executives and front office staff who will converge on Charlotte beginning Sunday, June 1 for the annual "League Meetings." The Board of Governors will also meet during this important off-season get together. The meetings will be held at the Hyatt Charlotte at South Park, with the first session for communications and marketing beginning Monday, June 2 at 9:00 a.m.

"The timing is great for these meetings with our new teams and new people," quoted Checkers Owner / CEO, Carl Scheer. "We are all looking forward to the exchanging of ideas and concepts as the ECHL moves into a new era. I'm delighted that Charlotte is the host site of these meetings at this strategic time."

The Board of Governors first meeting will be held Wednesday morning. Updates on the league's latest expansion as well as the current status of negotiations on the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Professional Hockey Players Association are just a few of the items that will be presented to the Board of Governors. Upon conclusion of the Board of Governors Meetings, the ECHL will issue a press release detailing the results.

All 32 ECHL teams will have communication and marketing staff at the meetings with numerous guest speakers highlighting different aspects of these operations. Marketing and media relations' issues relating to the expansion of the ECHL will be addressed, as well as continued discussion on building on the success of promoting and marketing the ECHL which is now the premier "AA" professional hockey league in North America. Representatives of the seven new teams that have joined the ECHL since the end of last season will also be attending the annual meetings for the first time. They include the Alaska Aces, the Bakersfield (CA) Condors, Fresno (CA) Falcons, the Gwinnett (GA) Gladiators, Idaho Steelheads, Las Vegas Wranglers, Long Beach (CA) Ice Dogs, San Diego Gulls, and Texas Wildcatters.
