HAVING FUN WITH THE STING
The Sting have several exciting promotions taking place this week as they host the Phoenix Mercury and Los Angeles Sparks at the Charlotte Coliseum.
On Thursday, May 26, the first 2,500 fans will receive Sting caps and sweatbands courtesy of Lowe's Home Improvement. On Saturday, May 28, the Sting will host Beach Blast Night. The first 2,500 fans will receive Sting koozies courtesy of FedEx while the halftime features a performance by the Beale Street Flippers.
#1 PICKS
The two most recent #1 Draft Picks will be on the court when the Sting host the Mercury on Thursday. In 2004, the Mercury selected Diana Taurasi with the #1 pick while the Sting made Janel McCarville the top pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft.
SHE'S BAAACK!
Guard Allison Feaster returned to Charlotte last week after spending the offseason playing for USVO in France. The Sting's leading scorer for the past two seasons, Feaster did not play in the Sting's opening night contest but re-joined the starting line-up on May 22 in Indiana where she posted eight points.
SAM LOOKING STRONG
Forward Sheri Sam has looked impressive in her first two games as a member of the Charlotte Sting. She has led the team in scoring in both games and is averaging 14.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two contests.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Thur. May 26- vs. Phoenix
7 p.m. â Charlotte Coliseum
The Sting return home to the Charlotte Coliseum to take on the Phoenix Mercury. Phoenix lost their season-opener falling to the Sacramento Monarchs 77-72 on Saturday. The Mercury is led by second-year phenom Diana Taurasi. Last year's Rookie of the Year, Taurasi averaged 17.0 points in 2004 â the fourth best total in the league. Joining Taurasi on the Mercury roster is sharp shooting guard Anna DeForge. DeForge averaged 14.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 2004. New additions to the Mercury roster this season include center Kamila Vodichkova, who was a member of the 2004 WNBA champion Seattle Storm and Australian forward Belinda Snell.
Sat. May 28- vs. Los Angeles
6 p.m. â Charlotte Coliseum
The Sting continue their homestand with a meeting against the Los Angeles Sparks. The Sparks opened the 2005 season in impressive fashion as they defeated the Seattle Storm 68-50. 2004 MVP Lisa Leslie scored 23 points while Chamique Holdsclaw, who was acquired in an offseason trade with Washington, posted a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. In addition to Leslie and Holdsclaw, the Sparks roster features three WNBA All-Stars â guard/forward Mwadi Mabika, guard Tamecka Dixon and guard Nikki Teasley.
GOLD ON HAND
Four Olympic gold medalists will take to the court this week at the Charlotte Coliseum. The Sting's Dawn Staley joined Mercury guard Diana Taurasi and Sparks center Lisa Leslie on the team that captured the gold in Athens. It was the third gold medal for Staley and Leslie who also won gold in 1996 and 2000. The Sparks' Chamique Holdsclaw was also a member of the squad that won gold at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
CATCH THE STING ON TV
The Sting will play their first televised game of the
season on May 26 as they host the Phoenix
Mercury at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on
C-SET with Steve Martin and Stephanie Ready calling the action.
C-SET can be seen in Charlotte on Time Warner Cable Channel 150.
C-SET will broadcast a total of five Sting games this season. The Sting at Washington game on August 2 will be televised nationally on ESPN 2. The television schedule is as follows:

2004 RECAP
· The Sting finished the 2004 season in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with a 16-18 record.
· The Sting led the WNBA in defense holding their opponents to just 63.8 points per game.
· Dawn Staley recorded her 1,000th career WNBA assist and became just the third player in league history to reach that plateau.
· Tammy Sutton-Brown set several records in the blocked shot category. She set a career and franchise record by rejecting six shots on June 28 vs. Indiana. She also became the franchise's all-time leader in the category with 196 career blocks.

All 34 regular season games can be heard live on WNMX 106.1 FM. Veteran announcer Sam Smith will call all the action for the third consecutive season.

BOBCATS HAVE SECOND-MOST CHANCES IN LOTTERY
The Bobcats will have the second-most combinations
in the 2005 NBA Draft Lottery. Charlotte will have a
total of 183 chances out of 1,000 with its two lottery
selections. The NBA Draft Lottery will take place on
May 24 in Secaucus, New Jersey.
