Published on May 20, 2005 under Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Charlotte Sting News Release
The Charlotte Sting set their roster at 12 players, it was announced today by Sting General Manager and Head Coach Trudi Lacey. Each WNBA team was required to submit its opening night roster today by 3 p.m. ET. The Sting tip off their ninth season Saturday, May 21, as they host Washington at 6 p.m. at the Charlotte Coliseum.
"I have enjoyed working with this group of players as much as any," said Lacey. "They have embraced what asked of them and narrowing the roster down to 12 players was a very difficult process. However, we have put together a good, cohesive team and anticipate the Sting being very competitive this season."
Charlotte will be led by returning starters Dawn Staley, Allison Feaster and Tammy Sutton-Brown. New faces include offseason acquisitions Sheri Sam, Tangela Smith and Helen Darling as well as the #1 pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft, Janel McCarville.
WNBA rosters consist of 11 active players and up to two injured players. Jessica Moore, the Sting's second round draft choice this past spring, was placed on the injured list with a left ankle sprain.
