Charlotte Independence News Release
Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte Independence announced today the signing of Charlotte Independence Soccer Club center back Jake Roberts to a USL Academy contract for the remainder of the 2023 season.
"Jake has trained well with us over the last month and earned his spot on the roster," Charlotte Independence Head Coach, Mike Jeffries said. "He brings great intensity, has very solid defensive qualities, and a tremendous work ethic. He is comfortable in possession and makes good choices in his passing out of the back, often finding players between lines."
Roberts has been with the Independence youth academy since he was 12 years old and currently attends Hopewell High School. He has committed to play college soccer at Campbell University alongside Marco Wright, who also joined the Jacks first team this Spring.
Roberts played in the 2023 ECNL National Selection Game in Richmond, Virginia. The match featured the best ECNL players from across the country.
"I am very excited to be joining the team. This has been a goal of mine ever since I was a kid," Roberts said. "I love coming out and training with the guys everyday. I am very excited to keep learning and getting better everyday."
The Charlotte Independence remain on the road taking on North Carolina rivals, NCFC at Sahlens Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina on Saturday, April 8th. First kick is set for 7:00 PM. Fans can live stream the match for free on Bahakel Sports.
