The Battery enters the game versus Atlanta on the back of a two game road trip last weekend. Charleston defeated Montreal 1-0 on Friday Night and lost to Rochester 5-2 on Sunday.
Byron Alvarez scored in both games; his 6 goals lead the USL First Division. Alavarez was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week.
The Battery played Atlanta at Blackbaud Stadium on May 26, won 2-0 (Byron Alvarez and Ian Fuller scored the goals)
Friday's game doubles as a Southern Derby match. The Southern Derby is a fan organized intra-league competition between Charleston, Atlanta and Cary. At the end of the series between the three teams one will receive a trophy. The tournament started in 2000.
Atlanta (3-4-4, 13 points, 10th place in the league table) is coming off two consecutive 0-0 draws to Seattle and the California Victory. Both games were played on the West Coast last weekend.
Saturday night the Battery travels to Cary, NC to take on the Railhawks (7:30 PM / REAL 1340 AM)
Next Tuesday the Battery will square off against PDL El Paso in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Blackbaud Stadium.
The Battery defeated the PDL Central Florida Kraze at Blackbaud 3-0 two weeks ago at Blackbaud. El Paso, who fell to the Richmond Kickers in penalty kicks in the 1994 final, defeated Miami F.C. in penalty kicks to earn the second round berth. Kickoff is set for 7:30. General admission tickets are $10. Season ticket holders can purchase tickets for $5.

Friday's game is presented by Queen Anne's Revenge restaurant and there will be a spectacular Fireworks display immediately following the match. Fan's can purchase $2 drafts until kick off in the Bud Light Beer Garden & the Bombshells will be dancing at half time. SPOT THE BALL
The Charleston Battery has teamed up with Post and Courier and Sticky Fingers to give Battery fan's a chance to Spot the Ball. Look for the weekly ad in the Post and Courier (Thursday / Friday Sports) that features a Battery photo with the soccer ball removed. Fan's then clip the ad; mark an X where they think the ball goes and drop the entry off at the fan appreciation table Saturday Night. The most accurate guess each week receives dinner for 4 at Sticky Fingers, plus at the end of the season one correct winner will win a night in the Charleston Battery Owners Box.
