Charleston Battery News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Battery are excited to confirm the signing of forward Jackson Conway to the 2024 roster on Friday, pending league and federation approval. The prolific goalscorer has made his mark on both domestic and continental stages.
Conway, 22, is a product of Atlanta United FC's academy and rose through the ranks to signing as a Homegrown player with the first team, debuting in late 2020 at 19 years old. He now joins the Eastern Conference Title-Holders in Charleston.
"What drew me to the Battery was the vision the club and the staff have for the city and the fans," said Conway. "I wanted to be a part of this project and, hopefully, help my teammates and coaches reach the goals we want to achieve by the end of the year. I think this team has a lot of talent and a bright future for this upcoming season, I'm happy I can be part of it."
Conway is a proven threat in attack and has scored in the Concacaf Champions League (now 'Cup'), MLS, USL Championship, and MLS NEXT Pro.
The 6-2 forward tallied 28 goals and three assists in 88 matches with Atlanta United 2 (2018-23) and two goals in 12 matches with Atlanta United (2020-23). Conway scored on his first team debut, netting the match-winner against Liga MX side Club América in the 2019-20 Concacaf Champions League. He also made 10 appearances for Phoenix Rising FC in 2023 on a brief loan.
Head Coach Ben Pirmann likes what Conway can bring to matches.
"Jackson is a very strong and imposing center forward," said Coach Pirmann. "He moves well for a big man, holds the ball up with tidy technical ability and has tremendous scoring instincts around goal.
"Jackson has just turned 22 years old but has over five years of MLS and USL experience, providing the best of both categories. These attributes will be key for himself and the club as we push to achieve our goals in 2024."
Born in Leeds, England, Conway grew up in Marrietta, Ga., and first joined Atlanta's academy in 2016. He immediately helped the squad win the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) National Championship in 2017. Conway's Atlanta United 2 debut came the following year, against Charleston. He was Atlanta's ninth Homegrown signing.
On the international stage, Conway played for the U.S. U-16 national team, featuring in two matches. He holds citizenship for the U.S. and the United Kingdom.
A previous opponent at Patriots Point, Conway is looking forward to representing the Lowcountry now.
"Charleston has always been a tough place to play because the fans were always the 12th man," said Conway. "I'm excited to be on y'all's side now and feel the team and I can bring more smiles to the community because y'all deserve it."
