Champions Take Rubber Game over Jackals

The New Jersey Jackals blew a one-run lead in the seventh inning as the Ottawa Champions took the rubber game of the series 5-4 on Thursday night at RCGT Park.

Newly acquired infielder Taylor Oldham hit a three-run home run in the top of the second, his first as a Jackal to give New Jersey the early 3-0 edge.

Ottawa third baseman Vincent Guglietti grounded out to short stop in the home half of the frame to bring in Zak Colby for the Champions first run of the night.

Nolan Meadows lifted a sacrifice fly for the Jackals in the top of the third to get a run back after John Ruettiger scored.

Behind 4-1, Ottawa chipped away at the lead.

Short stop Daniel Bick drove in Chase Harris with an RBI single in the bottom of the third.

Then, a groundout by Sebastian Boucher brought in Bick to make a 4-3 contest later in the frame.

Jackals pitcher Nate Gercken made his second start of the season and allowed one unearned run in two innings.

Zach Arneson came on in relief and went four innings out of the bullpen for New Jersey, giving up two runs on six hits.

With Pete Perez in the ball game for New Jersey, the Champions strung together a rally in the seventh.

Sebastian Boucher delivered an RBI single to score Tyler Brown to tie the game up.

Later, with Steve Brown batting, short stop Carlos Triunfel committed an error allowing Boucher to score on the unearned run.

This gave Ottawa its first lead of the night at 5-4.

Closer Scott Maine worked a four out save for the Champions, taking the series over New Jersey.

The Jackals now head to Quebec City to take to take on the Capitales in a three-game weekend series beginning on August 3.

First pitch is set for 7:05 P.M. at Stade Canac.
