Champions' home opener is overtime heartbreaker

Anderson Champions News Release
The ABA's signature 3D rule, which rewards defensive effort provided an exciting twist to the Champions home opener at the Wigwam. Unfortunately for Anderson, the visiting St. Louis Stunners were able to tie the game after forcing a turnover in the backcourt resulting in a four- point play. The Stunners prevailed in overtime outlasting Anderson 123-117.
An enthusiastic crowd of 1,100 witnessed history as the Champions fought in a back and forth high scoring affair. Antiony Hardin led Anderson with 28 pts with Virgil Akers contributing 17. St. Louis' Mario Cain led all scorers with 39.
Coach Ray Tolbert was encouraged by his team's effort, but disappointed with the final score. "I take responsibility for this one, but we'll be back stronger as a result" stated Tolbert. "I think we'll be one of the elite teams in the league. We have a good mix of youth and veteran leadership. Right now, we just need to get in shape."
