September 9, 2003 - Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
RB - MIKE PRINGLE #34
EDMONTON ESKIMOS
Stats
Game #59 â Calgary 0 @ Edmonton 38
22 carries (148 yds, Avg. 6.7 yds, LG 61), 2 TD's, 2 rec. (16 yds).
The Natural
"Pringle is a natural runner, he reads the blocking, finds the seams and explodes. Michael has good balance and good lower body strength, evident by his long touchdown run. He shed two tackles by keeping his feet moving on contact and breaking away. Michael is becoming a big part of the Edmonton passing game, small defenders are getting trampled. Pringle, the old veteran, was the first running back to rush for over a 1,000 yards this season, his 8th season with over 1,000 yards rushing."
1st Runner-Up: Charles Roberts #1, Winnipeg Blue Bombers
2nd Runner-Up: Josh Ranek #30, Ottawa Renegades
Judge: Bob Krouse
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LB - SINGOR MOBLEY #27
EDMONTON ESKIMOS
Stats
Game #59 â Calgary 0 @ Edmonton 38
1 DT, 1 ST, 1 PKD, 2 INT (13 yds)
Who's House? Singor's House!
"Not in our house" Mobley repeatedly stated. Mimicking his, and his team's, attitude about the visiting Stampeders. The Eskimos were defeated four days earlier by the Stampeders, but an entirely different team took the field before over 62,000 fans.
Mobley was a vocal leader and a leader by example. He was around the ball more than some of the Calgary receivers with two interceptions and a pass knockdown in the secondary. At times he blitzed and put pressure on the quarterback, and even knocked down a pass as it left the quarterback's hands. Constantly disrupting the Stampeder plays, he was a big play maker "in his house."
1st Runner-Up: Antonious Bonner #10, Toronto Argonauts
2nd Runner-Up: Michael O'shea #50, Toronto Argonauts
Judge: Bob Krouse
LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
DE - DEMETRIOUS MAXIE #91
CALGARY STAMPEDERS
Stats
Game #59 â Calgary 0 @ Edmonton 38
2 QB Sacks (18 yds), 2 Tkls for Loss (3 yds), 1 Def. Fumble Rec, 1 FF
Stamps Heart and Soul
"Maxie maintained the intensity from the Labour Day Classic four days earlier â he comes to play every week. He is a great competitor, a blue-collar type of guy. Maxie played like there was no tomorrow. His pass rushes were tenacious, he worked the blockers over physically. Maxie pushed the pocket back, separated and sacked the quarterback. He was the heart and soul of the Stampeders on the day."
1st Runner-Up: Eric England #95, Toronto Argonauts
2nd Runner-Up: Nate Davis #98, Saskatchewan Roughriders
Judge: Bob Krouse
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
WR - TONY MILES #15
TORONTO ARGONAUTS
Stats
Game #62 â Toronto 30 @ Winnipeg 34
4 Kickoff Ret. (131 yds), 1 TD
Schooled by the Book of Teamwork
"Miles made an outstanding run, veering to the sideline and sprinting over ninety yards for a touchdown. His run was a clinic in teamwork. His blockers made contact at the same time as he caught the ball, each slowing the pursuant tacklers just enough. Miles saw the blocks and sprinted to the wall. Some blockers, like Jeff Johnson, threw more than one block on the play. Truly a well orchestrated return by the whole unit."
1st Runner-Up: Paul McCallum #4, Saskatchewan Roughriders
2nd Runner-Up: Craig Yeast #5, Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Judge: Bob Krouse
