CFL Nabs Another Bessie
Published on May 12, 2003 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
Toronto, Ontario â For the second straight year a commercial produced for the Canadian Football League has won a Bessie Award. The "Butt Baby" spot produced by Toronto agency Bensimon * Byrne D'Arcy won a gold medal in the Television Single category. The very successful "Rivalries" campaign won 4 awards in last year's competition.
Brent Scrimshaw, Senior Vice-President Marketing and Partnerships reacting to the news, stated, "Once again the creative team at Bensimon * Bryne has struck gold with the second installment of the âRivalries' campaign. Their portrayal of the rivalry insight in welcoming Ottawa back to the CFL has resonated with fans across the country. The Agency has played an enormous role in the renaissance of this League."
Jack Bensimon, President of Bensimon * Byrne D'Arcy concurred. " We're extremely proud that the CFL work has been recognized for the second year in a row," offered Mr. Bensimon. "It's further evidence that our initiatives to win back the youth of Canada are paying off for the League. With a smart, strategically focused client like this, and an idea that's rooted in a core truth about the brand, there's no telling how far we can take this brand in the years ahead," he added.
The Bessies is an annual TV commercial competition organized by the Television Bureau of Canada in conjunction with the Broadcast Executives Society. Entries are accepted from any individual or group engaged in creating or producing Canadian television commercials. The competition is open to all television commercials created for a Canadian viewing audience, originated by an agency/production facility incorporated in Canada.
In 2003, The Bessies celebrate 40 years of recognizing the finest in Canadian television advertising -- a period almost as long as the history of commercial TV itself. One thing that has remained constant, however, is what The Bessies stand for: the best of Canadian television advertising ideas, singling out that very select group of craftspeople making commercials for Canadian companies and audiences.
