July 14, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League, today announced the league's playoff format for the upcoming 2010-11 season as well as a change in the number of games played by each team during the regular season.
The league's Board of Governors voted to add two games to each team's regular season schedule - one additional home game and one additional away game. Each team will now play 33 home games and 33 away games for a total of 66 regular season contests. Central Hockey League teams played a 64-game regular season schedule during the 2009-10 season.
The 2010-11 season is set to begin on Friday, Oct. 15 and will conclude on Sunday, March 27.
A total of 16 teams - the top eight teams from each conference - will qualify for the 2011 Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Playoffs. The team with the highest regular season points total in each conference will be the top seed for its respective conference with the next seven highest points totals in each conference seeded 2-8.
The postseason will consist of four rounds with the first two rounds being best-of-5 matchups. The final two rounds will be best-of-7 series. The brackets for the postseason will remain constant with no re-seeding taking place. Home ice advantage during the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Finals (fourth round) will be awarded to the team with the higher regular season points total.
Should any two or more teams be tied in points for any seeding issues throughout the playoffs, the first tiebreaker will be most wins, then head-to-head record, and lastly goals-for and goals-against differential.
The Sundogs will celebrate their fifth season in the Central Hockey League beginning this October at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. Season ticket packages are available for as low as $295. For more information call (928) 583-6061 or visit www.arizonasundogs.com.
