CCM USHL Players of the Week Named

The United States Hockey League announced the CCM Forward, Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week for Week 8 of the 2015-16 season. Ottawa Senators goaltending prospect Joey Daccord won his second honor of the year, while second year NHL Draft-eligible defenseman Christian Evers also took home his second weekly award. Mitchell Smith rounded out the honors after scoring a hat trick in his lone game played last week.

Forward: Mitchell Smith - Dubuque Fighting Saints

1 GP: 3 goals, 0 assists, +2 rating

Smith, a third year USHL forward, netted a hat trick in Dubuque's lone game this week. Smith scored the three goals on four shots, two of which coming at even strength. The Stouffville, ON native has 12 points in 14 games, including seven goals on the season. The Fighting Saints are 4-1-0-0 this season when Smith scores a goal. The Yale University commit has previously played for Salisbury School (USHS) and the Toronto National AAA (GTMMHL) prior to joining the USHL.

Defenseman: Christian Evers - Lincoln Stars

3 GP: 2 goals, 1 assist, +2 rating

Evers, a second-year NHL Draft eligible defenseman, earned his second USHL Defenseman of the Week award after scoring twice and posting a three-game scoring streak. The Waukee, IA native has 10 points in 16 games this year and a +8 rating. The Lincoln Stars allowed just one goal while Evers was on the ice in the three games he played this week. The University of North Dakota commit previously played for Team USA (USHL) and Omaha AAA (NAPHL). The 6'2" 206 lb. defenseman was selected first overall by Lincoln in the 2015 Phase II USHL Draft.

Goaltender: Joey Daccord - Muskegon Lumberjacks

2 GP: 2-0-0-0, 0.50 GAA, .978 SV%

Daccord, a 2015 NHL Draft pick of the Ottawa Senators, earned his second USHL Goaltender of the Week award after posting wins in back-to-back starts over the weekend. The North Andover, MA native posted a 27-save shutout Saturday, and stopped 18 of 19 shots Friday night to complete the weekend sweep. Daccord has won four consecutive starts in net including an overtime and shootout win. The Arizona State University commit has a 0.95 GAA and .959 SV% during the win streak. All four wins have come on the road, giving the first-year USHL goaltender a 5-1-0-0 record away from home on the season. The 19-year old goaltender was selected from Cushing Academy (USHS) in the 2015 NHL Draft in the 7th round, 199th overall.
