LAWTON, OKLA- Oklahoma Cavalry's Head Coach Michael Ray Richardson, Guard DeAnthony Bowden, and Forward Curtis Haywood visited Pat Henry Elementary school Friday afternoon to speak about the importance of education and listening.

The Cavs had the opportunity to meet with second, third, fourth and fifth graders. The players entered the elementary school gym to the sounds of applause and Jock Jams basketball music, and the players treated the students to slam dunks, stunning three-point shots, and behind the back lay-ups.

Second grade students had a lesson in listening. Coach Richardson played a short game of Simon says to show the importance of listening. Richardson told the class to always listen to their teachers and parents because they will only help you succeed.

Bowden stressed the importance of education. He told the students they are never too old to learn.

"The more you learn the more your life will be interesting and successful," said Bowden.

Haywood spoke on the importance of education as well. He explained to the students about encouraging his 11-year old son to make good grades too.

"To play basketball isn't enough. You have to have an education to back you up," explained Haywood.

Second grade teacher assistant, Christina Jones said, "This is awesome that the players are out here. It's good for their morale and a positive reinforcement to their education."

Pat Henry had an assistant teacher for the afternoon. That teacher was fifth grader Shyhiem Townsend.

"I think they're a good team," said Townsend. "They are nice, they work well with children, and they like education."

The Oklahoma Cavs next school appearance is Tuesday, February 26 at Crosby Park Elementary.
