Caught in the Riptide: Detroit City FC at Monterey Bay FC Ends in 0-0 Draw
July 17, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Detroit City FC News Release
SEASIDE, California - For the first time this season, Detroit City Football Club (9-7-4) ended 90 minutes of play scoreless, resulting in a 0-0 draw at Monterey Bay FC (5-2-11) at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside, California. The draw means another point in the standings as the unbeaten streak is now extended to four matches.
The first half ended with City earning the only shot on target. With multiple opportunities in the first 45 minutes for City, the best chance came at the 19th minute when forward Antoine Hoppenot placed the ball perfectly in front of the net where forward Pato Botello Faz headed the ball directly into goalkeeper Antony Siaha. Botello Faz ended the night with the lone shot on target for DCFC and had another shot off target too.
City defender Rhys Williams saved a guaranteed goal by Monterey early at the eight minute mark with a crucial goal line clearance. Forward Christian Volesky was able to tuck the ball past a diving Nate Steinwascher but Williams came sliding into frame behind the goalkeeper to stop the ball from hitting the back of the net.
Over the 90 minutes of play Detroit controlled 55% of possession, had an 80% tackles success rate and had 100 more passes than Monterey.
While Monterey had nine shots to City's seven, both teams only had one shot on target each which meant there were limited scoring opportunities on either side of the field.
Le Rouge will be back home for the first time after two games away next Saturday July 23rd, taking on New Mexico United at Keyworth Stadium at 7:30pm. Streaming will be available on ESPN+ and TV20.
