Cats Sweep the Colts

September 6, 2012 - North American League (NAmL)
Fort Worth Cats News Release

Trevor Harden went the distance as the Colts were baffled by the right hander all evening long as Fort Worth are now heading to the United League championship after dismantling San Angelo, 6-0, Wednesday night at LaGrave Field.

Harden threw 110 pitches, an impressive 82 of them going for strikes, and spread San Angelo's six hits around to give little doubt to which squad would be advancing to the next round. With no errors on defense for Fort Worth, the Colts were unable to find the timely hits to provide any momentum.

The Cats offense registered six runs on ten hits with some timely hitting. Third baseman CJ Beatty and designated hitter Jon Dziomba each had two hits and two RBIs a piece.

Fort Worth scored first, doing so on an RBI single by Jon Dziomba. The New York native initiated the first two runs of the game as a double in the fourth inning allowed first baseman Jose Ruiz to come across the plate. Second baseman Antoin Gray had an RBI base hit in the fifth to make it 3-0 Fort Worth .

In the seventh inning, San Angelo put runners at the corners with two outs trailing by just three runs. Second baseman Danny Gonzalez, the tying run for the Colts, flew out to center on a 1-0 count to keep the shutout alive.

All hope was lost for the Colts after a wild pitch allowed Cats right fielder Chuck Caufield to slide in safely to the plate, followed by a two-run single by CJ Beatty. San Angelo would get just one more hit as Trevor Harden showed no sign of fatigue despite hitting triple digits in pitches thrown. Harden had five perfect innings, including the final frame, to clinch the series for Fort Worth.

With the win, the Cats head to the best-of-five United League championship series to face the Edinburg Roadrunners. Fort Worth will host the first two games at LaGrave Field before the series shifts to Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Game one is Friday night beginning at 7:05. Tickets can be purchased online at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
