Cats Strand 15 as Roadrunners Even Championship Series
August 18, 2013 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Fort Worth Cats News Release
Despite collecting 10 hits, nine walks and only striking out one time in game four of the United League Championship Series, the Fort Worth Cats mustered only three runs en route to 9-3 loss at the hands of the Edinburg Roadrunners on Sunday night at LaGrave Field.
With a win, the Cats (2-2) would have claimed the United League Baseball Championship, but instead the two teams will play one deciding game tomorrow at LaGrave.
The Cats stranded 15 runners on base in Sunday's game and have now stranded 47 on board in the series.
Each team scraped across a run in the first inning and did not score in the second, third or fourth. After that it was all Edinburg (2-2) as the Roadrunners put at least one run up in every inning after that.
When the score was 4-1 in the sixth, the Cats loaded the bases with one out for their number three and four hitters, but Roadrunner reliever Alex Schmarzo came on in relief of Cullen Babin and got David Bergin to fly out and Chris Ellison to ground out to end the threat.
That was the third time that the Cats had stranded the bases loaded in the first six innings.
Fort Worth eventually broke through in the ninth with two runs on a Logan Brumley single up the middle.
The final game of the series will take place tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. as it will be winner take all at LaGrave.
Game five will feature a pitching rematch of game one as Cole Stephens of the Cats takes on Edinburg's Ryan Zimmerman. The Cats won 13-2 the last time the pitchers faced off.
The price of tickets to the series finale has been reduced to $5 from the previously announced $10.
Fans can purchase tickets to the final game of the season by going online to FWCats.com or by calling (817) 332-CATS.
