Cats Release 2006 Schedule
November 29, 2005 - American Association (AA)
Fort Worth Cats News Release
The Fort Worth Cats have announced their schedule for the 2006 season today. An Independence Day game at LaGrave Field highlights the Cats' 96-game American Association schedule. The Cats' home opener is set for May 11 against the Shreveport Sports.
"We are excited about playing in the American Association in 2006," said Cats general manager Monty Clegg. "We think this is the best independent league in the country with five teams up north and five in the south. There's a lot of history involving many of these clubs including the fact that Fort Worth and St. Paul were two of the top farm clubs for the Brooklyn Dodgers. It's amazing all the great players that went on to play in the majors that played for the Cats and the Saints.
The Cats will travel to St. Paul May 26-28 and the Saints will visit Fort Worth in mid-July.
"Most of our games are against the teams in the south, but we'll be playing all the teams up north at least once or twice this season," said Clegg. "Our fans have really taken to the fact that this is an exciting period for the Cats.
"We had a number of special events last season, culminating in winning a championship. We'll retire another former player's jersey in 2006 and we'll once again have some unique promotions that will be announced in the coming months."
The Cats have had over 647,000 fans come through the turnstiles at LaGrave Field since the ballpark opened in 2002.
The American Association will consist of 10 teams in 2006. The South Division will feature Coastal Bend, Texas (Robstown); El Paso, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; Pensacola, Florida and Shreveport, Louisiana.
The North Division will consist of Lincoln, Nebraska; Sioux City, Iowa; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; St. Joseph, Missouri and St. Paul, Minnesota.
