
Cats Grab First of Three on the Road

The SteepleCats began a three game road trip with a visit to the Mystic Schooners as they arrived looking to avenge their home loss to the Schooners earlier this week. Alex Gomes got the ball for the Cats and after watching the last two SteepleCats starters dazzle it was Gomes's turn to on the hill. He kept pace with his teammates as he authored an outing of 5 innings allowing only 2 runs, and turned the ball over to Joe Kemlage and the left-hander took it the rest of the way going 4 innings of shutout relief. The Cats trailed by 2 when the got their first run in the 5th inning, they would tie the game up in the 7th inning, and with 2 outs and the bases loaded Matt Koperniak made the game deciding swing as he launched a 0-2 changeup over the right-center field fence for a grand slam! The game would end with a 6-2 final. The Cats were looking for a big win to start the road trip and they got it tonight. now they will head to New Bedford tomorrow and look to build on this momentum.
