Cats Drop Second Consecutive Game

June 23, 2019 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
North Adams SteepleCats News Release

In what was hoping to be a bounce back game for the SteepleCats as a large crowd was on hand for the Cats Sunday night game against the Nighthawks. The Cats handed the ball to Gordon Graceffo, who coming into the game was 2-0 and had visions of getting his Cats back into the win column. Graceffo put forth a warrior's effort as he didn't have his best stuff on the mound but he battled for his team, but the Nighthawks offense without hitting anything more than a single were able to post 4 runs on the board against the right-handed starter. The bats for the SteepleCats continued to be sheepish tonight as they were only able to amass one run on three hits for the entirety of this contest. The Nighthawks added on late with a 2-run blast in the ninth to effectively end the game as they took it by a final of 7-1. These are the first back-to-back losses for the SteepleCats on the season, as they had cruised to an 8-1 record, they now find themselves at 8-3 and entering the dog days of the season as they still have 7 consecutive games to play before their next off day. This team is stalked with players more than talented enough to right this ship. And it is cases like these where teams look to be hitting a wall that it'll take a big collective push to break out of what is manifesting itself as a team-wide slump. Only two losses in a row is now reason to push the panic button by any means, though after tonight the players and the coaching staff are left scratching their heads trying to find an answer to these recent struggles. Baseball is a game of adjustment, and the Cats need to make a few of their own if they want to solve this problem before they see all the early success they've had become undone.
