Cats continue hot play against Beijing

November 27, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
San Diego Wildcats News Release

The Wildcats (4-1) returned home after their first road game. San Diego entered the game with a three-game winning streak, after the Cats' last victory came by default as The Vegas Venom folded their organization. The Cats were coming off a week's rest prepared to take on Beijing Aoshen Olympian Team (2-3) to continue their impressive play to stay as top contenders in the division.

Beijing started the game with two three pointers and continued with an array of threes in the first quarter to jump out to a double-digit lead. On the other side of the ball, a slow start by the Wildcats, including low percentage shooting, made it difficult for the Cats to compete with Beijing in the first half. Fortunately, San Diego was able to chip away at the lead by going to the free throw line and having aggressive play on the offensive glass putting up their missed shots.

San Diego would not allow Beijing to run away with this game and they took a stance to show their skills in the third quarter. Cardell Butler tied the game at 60, but Beijing was reluctant to give away the lead. Aaron Hands gave the Wildcats their first lead of the game from the free throw line with a minute left in the third quarter. Butler closed the quarter with three three-pointers, one including a four-point play to give the Cats their own double-digit lead.

Once the Wildcats' shooting improved in the second half, they easily ran away with the game. Michael McNair ignited the team in the quarter showing his leadership skills to fire up the Cats on their way to a dominating victory. While their first half play was suspect, San Diego got into the rhyme of the game and show their true colors to pull out another impressive and convincing win, 98-85.
