Cats Beat Gulls in High Scoring Affair
July 20, 2019 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
North Adams SteepleCats News Release
It was another high scoring affair as the Newport Gulls came to town for another exciting contest between these two teams. The Cats sent Gordon Graceffo to the mound in what was easily the hottest day of the summer, and the afternoon start time didn't help with that. Graceffo gave all he had going four innings and exiting with the lead. Joey Porricelli got this game off on the right foot as he sent a 3 run homer over the left field fence for his third round-tripper of the season. There was offense galore in this one as the two teams combined for 23 runs as both offenses were swinging hot bats in the summer heat. The Gulls grabbed a lead in the middle innings, but the Cats would quickly retaliate with some crooked numbers of their own. The big player of the game for the Cats was Dan Corvo as he closed out the last four innings of this game and held onto the lead he was given when he entered the game. The Cats pulled this one out by a final of 14-9 and now have cracked the 20 win mark this season. Tomorrow the Cats will head to Winnipesaukee for a double header with the first game starting at 4 o'clock. Both games will only be 7 innings in length, Cats will be looking to add a win or two more tomorrow against the Muskrats as they have a full week of games leading up to the All-Star break.
