Columbus Catfish News Release
Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (20-35) fell to the Greenville Drive (30-26) 6-2 to extend their losing streak to 9 games.
The scoring began in the bottom of the first, when Reid Fronk's double scored Shawn O'Malley , who had reached on an error and stolen second base. Greenville answered in the top of the with a David Mailman double that scored Michael Jones , who had singled. Oscar Tejeda then laced a double down the left field line that scored Luis Exposito , who had reached on an error, and Mailman. Kristopher Negron then scored Tejeda with a sacrifice fly to give Greenville a 4-1 lead after 4. Greenville would add 2 more in the top of the 5th, when Luis Exposito hit a 2-run home run to left field. Columbus only other run would come on a Shawn Williams groundout that scored Henry Wrigley , who had tripled.
Greenville had 4 players with at least 2 hits: Jered Stanley , Michael Jones, David Mailman and Oscar Tejeda. The Drive also got a strong start out of Chris Province , who allowed only 1 earned run in 6 innings of work while limiting the Catfish to 4 hits.
Columbus was led offensively by Reid Fronk, who was 2-3 with a double and run batted in, and Henry Wrigley, who was 2-4 with a run and a triple. Woods Fines picked up his 2nd loss in 3 starts after allowing 4 hits, 4 runs, 2 earned runs, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts in 4 innings of work.
The Catfish and Drive conclude their series tomorrow at 2 pm at Golden Park.
