Castro Pitches Roadrunners Past Thunder

EDINBURG, Texas - Julio Castro pitched seven innings and allowed just one unearned run to lead the Edinburg Roadrunners past the McAllen Thunder 6-1 Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Castro, who made his second start of the season, picked up his fourth win of the season while striking out seven on the night.

McAllen (31-57) got their only run of the game in the top of the first. Davis Page reached on a fielding error and then after moving to third on a single he came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Gianison Rosa that made it 1-0.

The Roadrunners (54-34) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI triple from Luis Sumoza that drove in Felix Molina from first tying the game. Eric Bloom then followed with an RBI ground out to second that allowed Sumoza to score giving Edinburg the 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Wilmer Pino hit an RBI double that allowd Vincent Blue to score from first. One out later, Carlos Hereaud hit an RBI ground out to third that allowed Pino to score making it 4-1.

Bloom added to the Roadrunners' lead in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double to right field that drove in Molina from second extending their lead 5-1.

With a runner at second in the bottom of the seventh, Hereaud hit an RBI single to right field that scored Pascual Del Real making it 6-1 Roadrunners.

Rusty Jones pitched the final two innings of the ball game and did not allow a run or a hit with two strike outs giving Edinburg the 6-1 victory.

A schedule change has the Roadrunners opening a series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Monday night at Harlingen Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
