Castro Homers Twice In Defeat

LANCASTER, Calif. - Luis Castro homered twice, but Stockton scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the JetHawks, 8-5, in the series opener Thursday night at The Hangar. The loss was just the second for Lancaster this season when leading after eight innings.

Lancaster (27-25) led, 8-5, going into the ninth inning. Stockton rallied, scoring five runs on five hits against Salvador Justo (1-1) to take the lead. The blown save was the second in a row for Justo. Jake Bray pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to earn the save for Stockton.

Stockon (20-32) scored the first two runs of the game in the first inning, but the JetHawks battled back with five unanswered runs. Four of Lancaster's runs came vai solo homers. Todd Czinege homered in the second inning, and Luis Castro tied the game with his first homer in the fourth.

Castro hit another home run in the sixth inning, giving him five over the team's past two home games. He leads the California League with 11 home runs and 42 RBIs.

Ramon Marcelino added a solo home run with two outs in the sixth inning, putting the JetHawks on top, 5-2. Stockton scored one in the eighth before their big ninth inning. Will Gilbert (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings in relief of starter Jordan Mitchell to earn the win.

It was the first win for the Ports- who had lost 15 of 20 coming into the series- when trailing after eight innings this year. Lancaster has lost three of four and now sits four games back of Rancho Cucamonga in the standings.

The four-game series continues Friday night at The Hangar. Righty Antonio Santos (1-2) gets the ball for the JetHawks opposite Brady Feigl (3-2). First pitch is 6:35 pm.
