Lancaster JetHawks News Release
Albert Cartwright smacked an RBI single off Victor Capellan and Andy Simunic raced home with the winning run as Lancaster claimed a 5-4 walk-off win over Visalia at Clear Channel Stadium Thursday. The JetHawks earned a series victory with a win in the rubber match of the three-game set. The JetHawks struck first with a run in the opening frame. Jay Austin walked, stole second base and took third on a throwing error from Rawhide catcher Rossmel Perez. Cartwright drove in Austin with an RBI groundout and the JetHakws took a 1-0 advantage.
Lancaster added a run in the second on an RBI single from Simunic and tacked on another run in the third on Brandon Barnes' sacrifice fly.
But Visalia scored three runs off JetHawks starter Kyle Greenwalt in the top of the fourth. The Rawhide got an RBI double from Josh Ford and RBI singles from Perez and Dan Kaczrowski to even the score at 3-3.
John Curtis belted a solo home run off Rawhide starter Charles Brewer - his first as a JetHawk - in the bottom of the sixth to put Lancaster in front 4-3.
After the Rawhide tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the ninth, Simunic laced a leadoff double into the left field corner in the bottom of the frame. Simunic advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Austin and Cartwright delivered the game-winning RBI single.
David Berner (3-5) earned the win in relief for Lancaster. Capellan (2-3) took the loss for Visalia.
With the win, the JetHawks improved to 14-20 in the second half and 37-67 overall. The Rawhide fell to 16-18 in the second half and 53-51 overall.
