Indianapolis Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice announced today that the team has re-signed forward Ryan Carter to a contract for next year.
Carter, 26, made his full season professional debut with the Ice last season and registered 23 points (9G, 14A) and 46 penalty minutes in 61 games of work. The versatile winger closed out his rookie year with a solid playoff run by notching five points (2G, 3A) and a team-leading two power play goals in seven playoff contests.
"It was definitely a learning year for Ryan last season," said Ice Head Coach Ken McRae. "However, he progressed as the year went on and came up big for us in the playoffs. I believe he can make an impact as a "power forward" type player for us this upcoming season.
The native of Fort Nelson, British Columbia arrived in Indy last fall on the heels of an outstanding senior season at Iona College (MAAC-NCAA-I). He was one of the ten finalists for the Hobey Baker Award which is given annually to the top collegiate player in the United States, after leading the entire conference in scoring with 43 points (18G, 25A) in just 33 games.
"It's great to be back," said Carter. "Under Ken last year, I learned the right way to play the pro game. I now know what to expect each and every night and I have a lot more confidence in my game.
While at Iona, he served as captain three different seasons and left the university as their all-time leading scorer and the all-time career leader in points in the MAAC Conference. His overall numbers consisted of 179 points (93G, 86A) in 138 career games.
Carter becomes the sixth player signed for the 2003-04 season joining goaltender Shawn Silver, forward Jason Baird and defensemen Bernie John, Ryan Aikia and Nate Elliott.
