Carolina Rhinos News Release
GREENVILLE, SC â The League office of arenafootball2 and the Carolina Rhinos have announced quarterback Ramone Robinson has been named the League's Offensive Player of the Week. Robinson entered Saturday's game with the Rhinos trailing the Columbus Wardogs 28-8 after the first half and led the team on a 34-point scoring run en route to a 42-36 win. The victory avenged a 56-28 loss in Columbus a week earlier and snapped a franchise-record, seven-game losing streak.
"This shows patience and hard work pay off," said Rhinos head coach Rod Miller. "Ramone has waited for his opportunity all season and now has taken advantage of it. He led us to a win, and that is the team's reward. Now he receives his own recognition, and it is well deserve because he has played very well for the past two weeks at both quarterback and wide receiver when needed."
Robinson completed 13 of 18 passes, with no interceptions, for 162 yards and two touchdowns Saturday. He also tossed a two-point conversion to tie the game at 28-28 early in the fourth quarter and rushed for 38 yards and three touchdowns including the eventual game-winning score. Robinson posted all of his statistics in the second half.
The af2 release states, " Robinson didn't have the gaudiest statistics of this week's Offensive Player of the Week candidates, but he may have had the biggest impact. With Carolina trailing Columbus 28-8 at halftime, Robinson took over for starting Caleb Slover and led the Rhinos on a 34-point scoring run in a 42-36 victory that snapped a seven-game losing streak. Robinson rushed for 38 yards and three touchdowns, including what turned out to be the game-winning score. He also completed 13-of-18 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions."
Robinson has completed 51 of 108 passes for 602 yards and six touchdowns for the Rhinos this season. He has caught three passes for 20 yards and also rushed for 156 yards and seven touchdowns on 22 carries. Robinson leads the Rhinos with an average of 21.6 rushing yards per game.
Robinson is a fifth-year player out of Benedict College. He played with the Canadian Football League's Saskatchewan Rough Riders last year.
