
Carolina Challenge Cup Finale set for Saturday at Blackbaud

Charleston, SC. The 2007 Carolina Challenge Cup concludes on Saturday with a final Major League Soccer double-header at Blackbaud Stadium. The Charleston Battery takes on Toronto FC at 6 PM followed by the tournament finale featuring the current MLS champs the Houston Dynamo versus the New York Red Bulls at 8:15 PM.
Last years tournament winners the Houston Dynamo need a win over New York on Saturday to give them their third consecutive Carolina Challenge Cup title. Toronto and the Red Bulls both still have a chance to win the title but will need victories in their final games; the Battery's best possible finish is now second place.
Tickets for the 2007 Carolina Challenge Cup are on sale now. Fans can purchase tickets for each doubleheader or for the six match series. Tickets for single doubleheaders (includes two games) are priced at $25 Club / Box & $15 bleacher.
Battery wins inaugural Carolina Challenge Cup Golf Invitational
The USL First Division Charleston Battery won the inaugural Carolina Challenge Cup Golf Invitational tournament Thursday afternoon by three strokes. The Captain's Choice format tournament was played under strict match conditions at Rivertowne Country Club in Mount Pleasant and featured teams from the Battery and three Major League Soccer clubs.
The winning Battery team included Charleston Battery Head Coach, Mike Anhaeuser, Charleston Battery Assistant Coach Mark Watson and former Charleston Battery striker Paul Conway.
Each team in this week's Carolina Challenge Cup was allotted three foursomes in the Carolina Challenge Cup Golf Invitational. Players in the tournament included former US Men's National Team Head Coach Bruce Arena and former US Men's National Team Captains; Claudio Reyna and John Harkes.
Charleston Battery midfielder Chris Corcoran won the long drive competition with a 310 yard strike on the 3rd hole. Houston Dynamo defender Eddie Robinson won the closest to the pin competition with a stroke that fell 6 feet short of the hole on the 8th pin.
