The NY-Penn league has announced their post season awards for the 2004 season and the New Jersey Cardinals are proud to announce the selection of second baseman Chris Patrick to the All-Star Team and Manager, Tom Shields has been named the Manager of the Year.
Patrick finished 2nd in the league with a .325 average and finished the final month of the season hitting over .350. Patrick had 18 multi hit games, 5 multi rbi games, and 3 contests in which he scored multi runs. Other highlights for Chris include a 9 game hitting streak, a 6 game run scoring streak, 5 hits on 8/9 at Brooklyn, 4 hits vs. Staten Island on 8/1, and a 4-6 night with 3 rbis in a doubleheader against Williamsport on 8/19.
Tom Shields, the New Jersey Cardinals all-time winningest manager (111 wins), is the teams first recipient of this league award. The Cardinals finished the year with a 41-34 record and finished 2nd in the McNamara Division just one half game out of the playoffs. This was the franchises second best record in team history trailing on the 1994 NY-Penn League Championship team which finished 43-32. For his NJC career, Shields is 111-113 (.495).
Other former New Jersey Cardinals to be named to the all star teams are Brian Silvia catcher (NJC-94), Mike Taylor first base (NJC 94), Andy Bevins outfield (NJC 97), Eliezer Alfonzo catcher (NJC 99), John Santor first base (NJC 02), Travis Hanson third base (NJC 02).
