Springfield Cardinals News Release

Shane Robinson's two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning snapped a 1-1 tie, as the Springfield Cardinals reclaimed a share of first place with a 3-1 win at Hammons Field on Tuesday night. The win for the Cards moves them back into a first place tie with the Travs, as both teams are now 32-21.

After Arkansas tied it in the top of the sixth inning on a two-out RBI hit by Ben Johnson, the Cards wasted little time responding. Casey Rowlett earned a lead-off walk from Travs' starter Anthony Ortega. After Matt Pagnozzi laid down his second sacrifice of the night, pushing Rowlett to scoring position, Robinson followed with a high drive to left-center field, his fourth homer of the year, putting Springfield in front for good at 3-1.

Fernando Salas came out of the Springfield bullpen and worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning, earning his team-leading tenth save of the year to give Springfield their eighth win in their last nine games.

Springfield capitalized on an Arkansas error in the first, scoring their only other run without the aid of a hit. Shane Robinson led off the inning with a ground ball to third that Corey Smith threw away, allowing Robinson to reach second base. After Jon Jay sacrificed Robinson to third, Allen Craig brought home Robinson with a ground ball, making it a 1-0 game.

Springfield starter Tyler Herron threw the ball well in the no-decision. Herron didn't allow a base-runner through the first three innings, then pitched out of trouble in the fourth and fifth. Johnson's two-out single in the top of the sixth chased home Nate Sutton, forcing Herron to depart with the game tied at 1-1. Luke Gregerson (3-3), who pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win, retired Corey Smith on a ground ball to second base for the final out of the sixth.

Ortega (6-4) pitched well in the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on only three hits over 6 2/3 innings.

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that closer Jason Isringhausen will join the Springfield Cardinals and is scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, as he continues his rehab assignment.

Isringhausen, who is the third big-league pitcher to make a rehab appearance for Springfield in 2008, has been on the disabled list since May 16th, with a laceration in his right hand that was reported to have occurred a week prior to him landing on the shelf.

Isringhausen and the Springfield Cardinals will take on the Arkansas Travelers on Wednesday night at 7:10pm. Jess Todd (1-1) is scheduled to be the starting pitcher for Springfield, while Boby Mosebach (5-3) will go for Arkansas. Great seats are available by calling (417) 863-2143 or online at www.springfieldcardinals.com.

Don't forget that your Springfield Cardinals are in the midst of a pennant race and are at Hammons Field through this Sunday as they battle for the North Division Title. Matt Clement, who threw for Springfield on Sunday, will make his second rehab appearance on Friday night, as the Cards take on the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Friday night is another AM Pyrotechnics Friday Night Fireworks Extravaganza. Tickets are available by calling (417) 863-2143 or online at www.springfieldcardinals.com.
