Cardinals Take Second Straight over Bradenton
May 18, 2022 - Florida State League (FSL)
Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
The Palm Beach Cardinals rode a two-run sixth inning and a shutout performance from their bullpen in a 4-2 win over the Bradenton Marauders at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Wednesday night.
The win was the second straight for the Beach Birds, and their fourth in a row playing at home.
Catcher Wade Stauss knocked in a two-run double with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth. It gave the Cardinals a lead that would stand for the remainder of Silver Sluggers night in Jupiter.
Starting pitcher Zane Mills exited the contest with two runs allowed over five innings, striking out six batters, walking two, and allowing eight hits. But the Palm Beach bullpen preserved the victory with four combined scoreless frames. Edwin Nunez sat down four batters by strikes over two hitless innings, allowing just a sole baserunner via walk. And Bryan Pope claimed his first save in 2022 with a six-out, no-run appearance.
Adding insurance to the Cardinals' lead was a throwing error by Marauders pitcher Jake Sweeney in the eighth. First baseman Brady Whalen advanced home from second base on the attempted pickoff.
Aaron McKeithan led Palm Beach in hits with two on a night the home team was outhit 10-7. Shortstop Jeremy Rivas and Wade Stauss added to the walk total for the Cardinals and reached base twice apiece.
Palm Beach is back in action tomorrow against Bradenton at 6:30 p.m. It will be Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark, with $1, $2 and $3 drink specials!
