Tulsa Drillers News Release

For the Springfield Cardinals, Tulsa has been a home away from home this season. The Cardinals are now 7-2 at Drillers Stadium after Sunday night's 3-2 victory over the Drillers. The victory moved the first-place Cards 6 ½ games in front of Tulsa in the North Division standings.

Springfield broke a 2-2 tie with a run off reliever Juan Morillo in the top of the eighth inning. After retiring the first two hitters of the inning, Morillo walked the next two. Jose Martinez, who entered the game hitting only .197, followed with a single to right field that gave the Cards the lead.

Springfield opened the game's scoring in the first inning on a Mark Hamilton single that scored Sean Danielson, who had started the inning with a base hit. Tulsa starter Zack Parker avoided further trouble by getting Casey Rowlett to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Tulsa took the lead in the second inning. After Aaron Rifkin and Matt Macri began the second with singles, Matt Miller followed with another base hit, but Rifkin was thrown out attempting score. Another single by Chris Frey loaded the bases. When Eric Haberer struck out Tommy Duenas, it looked like he would escape the trouble unharmed, but Parker helped his own cause with a two-run single that put the Drillers in front 2-1.

The Cardinals tied the game at 2-2 in the top of third on a Rowlett sacrifice fly that scored Juan Lucena who walked to lead off the inning.

Matt Daley pitched 3 2/3 no-hit innings in relief of Parker. He walked only one hitter and struck out five. Morillo suffered the loss (4-4), allowing the one run in two innings.

Haberer picked up the win for the Cardinals by allowing only the two runs in seven strong innings. He surrendered six hits and struck out five. Chris Perez gained his 24th save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Springfield's Colby Rasmus left the game in the top of the first after getting hit in the head by a Parker pitch. Rasmus, top prospect in the St. Louis minor league system, left the field under his own power.

Tulsa and Springfield will play game two of their four-game series Monday night at Drillers Stadium. The Drillers Ryan Mattheus (6-6, 4.57 ERA) will pitch against Cardinals lefty Adam Daniels (3-2, 3.26 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05.
