SPRINGFIELD, MO-The Northwest Arkansas Naturals lost in a pitcher's duel to the Springfield Cardinals 2-1. The loss drops the Naturals to 2-10 away from Arvest Ballpark.

The Naturals got a great outing from Justin Marks who went six innings allowing seven hits and just two walks, while fanning a season high six.

The Naturals offense loaded the bases in the top of the third inning with no one out, but were unable to push a run across. The Cardinals (10-16) Scott Gorgen worked out of the jam by striking out both Wil Myers and Johnny Whittleman, and then getting Mario Lisson to ground out.

Gorgen worked five innings allowing just four hits walking one and fanning four in the start for the Cardinals.

Northwest Arkansas (12-14) got on the board first when Carlo Testa blasted a seventh inning home run off Cardinals reliever Justin Thomas. The home run gives Testa gave the Naturals a 1-0, and was number five on the season for him.

The Cardinals offense answered in the bottom of the inning when catcher Nick Derba hit his first home run of the season, off of Blaine Hardy (1-1) to tie the game. The Cardinals offense took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the eighth when Jake Shaffer scored on a wild pitch by Hardy.

Sam Freeman (1-0) picked up the win for Springfield, while Keith Butler worked out of trouble in the ninth inning, getting Kurt Mertins to ground into a double play, to earn his second save of the season.

The Naturals and Cardinals are back at it for game three of the series tomorrow night at 7:08 P.M. Tim Melville (1-1, 6.89) will take the hill for the Naturals against John Gast (3-2, 2.30).
