Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Shreveport-Bossier Captains announced the sponsors for their postseason campaign today, as they prepared for Game 1 of the 2010 American Association South Division Championship Series against the Pensacola Pelicans.

Camus Electric and Miller Lite headline the diverse list of sponsors for the playoffs, which include Landers Dodge, SWEPCO, Party Central Family Fun Center, Rose-Neath Funeral Homes, the Shreveport Times, Fitzgerald Contractors, Bobby L. Greene Plumbing, Buffalo Wild Wings, Broadmoor Baptist Church, Captain Morgan, Larue's Furniture, Calumet Lubricants and Willis-Knighton Health Systems.

On the field, the Captains will send veteran lefty Richard Salazar to the mound for the playoff opener at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. An All-Star this season, Salazar went 10-4 with a 3.78 ERA. In five starts against the Pelicans this year, Salazar was 2-1 with a 2.94 ERA. He was 1-1 at Pelican Park, with a 3.29 ERA in 13 2/3 innings. He was the Captains' most successful starter on the road this year, with a 7-3 record and a 4.26 ERA in 10 starts.

Salazar's opponent in the Game 1 is Pensacola ace David Nathanson. The righty was 8-5 with a 4.56 ERA on the season, and excelled against the Captains. Nathanson was 2-0 in four starts against Shreveport-Bossier with a 2.54 ERA. Nathanson did not allow a home run in 28 1/3 innings, with 33 hits and only eight runs. In two starts at Pelican Park, the righty ended the Captains' nine-game winning streak with seven innings of three-run ball on June 23, and then hurled an eight-hit shutout to beat the Captains with one walk and eight strikeouts on July 8. Overall, Nathanson was 6-2 with a 4.90 ERA in 10 starts at home.

Although the matchup in Game 1 may favor the Pelicans, the Captains were 12-8 against Pensacola this season. Shreveport-Bossier lost five of nine games at Pelican Park, but did win two of the three series - Pensacola swept the Captains in early July. At Fair Grounds Field, the Captains were 7-3 against Pensacola, with six wins in a row.

Game 2 of the series is Wednesday night, September 1, at 6:45 p.m. The Captains will next be at home for Game 3 of the South Division Championship Series against the Pensacola Pelicans, at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, September 3. Postseason tickets are on sale now at Fair Grounds Field for all possible home playoff games. All games are broadcast streaming live on ustream.tv.
