Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)âThe Lake County Captains will open the 2005 season with a four-game road trip beginning Thursday, April 7th at Lakewood, New Jersey, according to the official South Atlantic League playing schedule released today.
Following the brief four-game series against the BlueClaws, the Captains will return to Eastlake Ballpark for the 2005 home opener on Monday, April 11th at 7:05 p.m. against the Delmarva Shorebirds. A seven-game homestand with three games against the Shorebirds and four against the BlueClaws will open the 70-game home schedule.
The Captains, who ranked fifth in the league with a 73-66 record last season, will play 15 home games in April, 12 in May, 12 in June, 15 in July, 11 in August, and five in September.
"We are very excited to release our 2005 schedule today," said Captains General Manager Casey Stump. "Our staff is working hard, building on the success of our first two seasons, to enhance the Captains Baseball experience."
Except for the home opener on Monday, April 11th, the Captains will begin all Monday through Thursday games in April and May at 6:35 p.m. All Friday evening games will begin at 7:05 p.m., and all Sunday games will begin at 2:05 p.m. The first three Saturday home games of the season (April 16th, April 23rd, and May 7th) will also be 2:05 p.m. afternoon games. The 2005 home schedule will also feature three 11:05 a.m. weekday games. These special dates will occur on Tuesday, May 24th (vs. Lakewood), Wednesday, July 6th (vs. Lakewood), and Tuesday, July 12th (vs. Hagerstown).
The Captains will again play a 140-game schedule, with 70 at home and 70 on the road. Under a new, unbalanced schedule adopted by the South Atlantic League, however, the Captains will play only nine of the SAL's 16 teams next season. Several SAL teams have new major league affiliates, including two Captains 2005 opponents. Charleston (WV) has signed with the Milwaukee Brewers, while the Hagerstown Suns are now working with the New York Mets. Greensboro has changed its name from "Bats" to "Grasshoppers" and will play in the SAL Northern Division in 2005.
The 2005 schedule will feature home games against each of the Captains' seven Northern Division opponents, as well as home-and-home series against Asheville (Rockies) and Kannapolis (White Sox) from the Southern Division. Delmarva (Orioles) will be the most frequent Captains opponent in 2005, playing 19 games at Eastlake Ballpark. Lakewood (Phillies) will appear 11 times. Charleston, WV (Brewers), Hagerstown (Mets), and Lexington (Astros) will each play eight times at Eastlake Ballpark. Kannapolis (White Sox), Greensboro (Marlins), Asheville (Rockies) and Hickory (Pirates) will suit up for four games apiece.
The Captains will have home games on Father's Day, Sunday, June 19th, Independence Day, Monday, July 4th, and Labor Day, Monday, September 5th.
The Captains will announce the complete 2005 promotional schedule soon. Season tickets for the 2005 season are currently on sale. The Captains will again offer a 20-game ticket plan beginning on December 1st. Individual game tickets will go on sale in late February/early March.
The entire 2005 schedule will again be broadcast live on radio on WELW AM 1330.
During the first two seasons of Captains baseball, over 850,000 fans have attended games at Eastlake Ballpark. Sometime during the 2005 season, the team will attract its One Millionth fan. The Captains are a class-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. For more information on the Captains, visit www.captainsbaseball.com.
