Oklahoma City Blazers News Release

Oklahoma City, Okla. – The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed defenseman Tyler Fleck, head coach Doug Sauter announced today.

A 5-10, 200-pound native of Carlyle, Sask., Fleck returns to the Blazers for his sixth season as a pro. In 309 professional games, all with Oklahoma City, he has recorded 99 points (16-83-99) while serving 730 penalty minutes. Fleck served as team captain last season and had statistically one of his best seasons as a pro. He recorded career highs in points (24) and assists (21) while playing in all 60 games.

He enters the 05-06 campaign ranked fourth on the Blazers all-time games played list with 309, fifth in penalty minutes with 730, seventh in major penalties with 35 and second in minor penalties with 221. Last season, Fleck was voted Mr. Blazer by his teammates. That award annually goes to the player who best represents the Blazers on and off the ice.

Fleck was selected as the best body checker in the Central Hockey League last season in the annual "Best of the Best" poll. The survey is conducted by polling players, coaches and public relations/broadcasting staffs. Fleck earned six first place votes and nearly doubled the number of points garnered by defenseman Derek Martin of the Lubbock Cotton Kings.

"Tyler has shown that he is and can be the captain of our team," said Sauter. "He is a great leader both on and off the ice. He realizes what mistakes were made last season and what he can do to correct them. He and his family live here and are a part of the community. I have the confidence that he can guide our team and get the Blazers back on track."

Fleck is the first player signed by the Blazers for the 05-06 season and is the first veteran player. Each CHL team is permitted to have four players with 260-or-more games of professional experience on its roster.
