Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (June 10)- Behind every great team is a strong leader, and the Texas Brahmas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) are proud to announce the return of their captain Craig Minard for the 2009-10 season.

This will be Minard's third season donning the purple and black and tenth professional year. The 2009 CHL Champ comes back after last season anchoring the blueline and finishing with a team leading +25 while playing in all 64 regular season games. Minard registered 35 points (5 G, 30 A) and appeared in all 16 postseason games.

The Orangeville, ONT native was a catalyst on special teams for the Brahmas as he was asked to shut down opponent's top lines. Minard did most of his offensive damage on the powerplay scoring 26 of his 35 points with the man advantage (3 G, 23 A). His defensive soundness helped aid the Brahmas to a 12-4 record in the playoffs and the franchise's first Championship title.

Though Minard will be headed into his ninth season in the CHL, he has spent time in the British National League (BNL), East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League (RMJHL) and Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He also played five seasons with the University of New Brunswick in the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU).

Brahmas Head Coach Dan Wildfong believes the re-signing of the veteran blueliner will improve the Brahmas chances for a repeat.

"This is a huge signing for us this summer. Minzy was the backbone of this team for the past two seasons and a vital part of us winning a championship this past season," Wildfong said.

Craig Minard is the third announced player signing for the 2009-10 season. Minard joins forwards Jason Deitsch and Casey Russell. Season Tickets for Texas Brahmas hockey are now available. For information please contact the Brahmas office at (817) 336-4423.
