Edmonton Capitals News Release

Tucson, AZ - Edmonton Capitals Manager Brent Bowers trimmed the Caps roster as the team gets closer to Opening Day in the Golden Baseball League. Released players include catcher Kyle Wells (Elizabethtown, Kentucky), along with pitchers Luis Martinez (Fort Lauderdale, FL), Tristan Facer (Urbana, IL) and Steve Spurgeon (Stockton, CA). That leaves eleven pitchers, three catchers, seven infielders and five outfielders left in camp. The Capitals 22 man roster must be declared the day before the GBL's Opening Day May 19. Meanwhile, the Caps continued their hot spring with a 9-8 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks extended spring training team at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson. The D-backs squad was comprised of recently drafted players who are waiting their assignments to Class 'A' short season rosters.

Edmonton followed that up with their first loss of the exhibition season. They dropped a 7 - 2 decision to the Tucson Toros. Returning starter Chris Little pitched five innings giving up just one run on six hits.

Edmonton's record in the pre-season is 3 - 1. Next up will be another matchup against Pima Community College, a top junior college program in the southern United States.

The Capitals Home Opener is set for Tuesday June 1. Season seats are on sale now starting at under $10 per seat. Retail tickets for all 45 home games this season are also on sale now at any Ticketmaster location, at the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours (Monday through Friday), by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
