August 20, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - Two-year-old Maddox Flynn, the child who has touched the lives of thousands of people in Edmonton and surrounding areas over the past year, will be given a special honour by the Edmonton Capitals at Saturday night's game against the Calgary Vipers.

Flynn will get to go down to field level at TELUS Field prior to the start of the 7 p.m. game and help Capitals Director of Baseball Operations and Field Manager Gord Gerlach deliver the lineup card to the umpires and meet with Calgary Field Manager Morgan Burkhart. He will then also get to stay on the field for the singing of the national anthem.

"We're so excited to have such a courageous young boy join us at our game on Saturday night," Capitals Director of Business Operations Matt McPhee said of Flynn's upcoming visit. "Maddox has been through so much already in his young life, and we hope he thoroughly enjoys this special experience with our team."

Flynn was born with a rare facial lymphatic malformation that has since required a series of complex and costly operations, which prompted many city residents and groups to pitch in and help cover the costs of the procedures. He spent a month in New York City this summer undergoing two surgeries and finally returned to Edmonton last Saturday.

Flynn, his parents and members of their extended family will enjoy a night at the ballpark on Saturday, and media are invited as well for this special photo opportunity. The delivery of the lineup card and the singing of the national anthem will occur between 6:45 and 7:05 p.m.
