Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals continued to pound the baseball on Tuesday night, and so did the Yuma Scorpions, but the home team was able to put a few more runs across the plate to record their fifth consecutive victory with a 14-11 decision.
In five games against the Scorpions this series, the Caps have crushed the opposing pitching staff, scoring a whopping 64 runs en route to five straight wins. The Calgary Vipers were also victorious on Tuesday, though, meaning the Caps are still 0.5 games behind their provincial rivals in the North American League's North Division standings.
Tuesday's offensive explosion was a group effort for the Caps, as seven of their hitters recorded two or more hits. Centre fielder Steve Brown led the way going 2-for-5 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored, while catcher J.D. Closser also had a pair of hits, scored three runs and had one RBI. Right fielder Tom Collaro had two hits and two runs, as he and Closser followed up on their two-home run performances from Sunday.
The Caps also had multiple contributors to the victory on the mound, as Jorge Vasquez came on in relief of starter Daryl Arreola to pick up the win and improve to 4-1 on the season, while Tom Boleska tossed the final two innings to record his seventh save of the campaign.
The Caps will go for the six-game series sweep over the Scorpions on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the final Wiener Wednesday of the regular season presented by K-97. Mouth-watering ballpark hot dogs are just $2 all game. The Caps then welcome the Chico Outlaws for a four-game series running Thursday through Sunday.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer, featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Flex packs are available in multiples of eight for $48 less than day-of-game pricing. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
