Edmonton Capitals News Release
Wailuku, HA - For the second consecutive night, the Edmonton Capitals were on the losing end of a tight, low-scoring contest in Maui against Na Koa Ikaika. They dropped a 2-0 decision on Friday and followed that up with a 3-2 loss on Saturday.
The fifth inning was the Caps' undoing, as Maui scored all three of their runs en route to the win. Leading the way for the home squad was leadoff hitter and centre fielder Fehlandt Lentini, who went 4-for-5 on the night with a double and a run scored. Donald Brandt got the start and picked up the win for Maui, tossing six innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts. Jamie Vermilyea picked up the save for the second straight game.
Caps short stop Enrique Cruz continued to produce at the plate, driving in one of his team's runs with a first-inning home run. Third baseman Alex Prieto scored their second run in the sixth. Lou Pote got the start on the mound for Edmonton, pitching six innings and giving up all three runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts. He picked up his first loss of the Golden Baseball League season, as his record fell to 7-1.
The Caps (9-9) and Na Koa Ikaika (8-3) conclude their seven-game series with a double-header on Sunday, and the Caps finally return home to face the North Division first-half champions, the Chico Outlaws (9-9), on Tuesday - the first of 13 consecutive games at TELUS Field.
The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats start at less than $9 per game and are available pro-rated for the balance of the season. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
