Edmonton Capitals News Release
Yuma, AZ - The Edmonton Capitals played their third consecutive double-header on Tuesday night against the Yuma Scorpions at Desert Sun Stadium, and despite losing both games, they still emerged from the condensed seven-game series with a 4-3 advantage.
The Caps beat the Scorpions 4-3 in extra innings in the series opener on Saturday night, and the teams split their first double-header on Sunday with Yuma winning 2-1 and Edmonton winning 6-5. The Caps then won both Monday games by dual 8-6 scores before losing 11-8 and 8-3 on Tuesday to give them a 15-11 record on the 2011 North American League season.
Catcher Lou Santangelo hit a home run for the second straight night and also drove in three runs, while shortstop Enrique Cruz continued his hot hitting with a 3-for-4 game, and centre fielder Todd Linden also went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs in a losing cause in game one.
Daryl Arreola, Lou Pote and Brandon Villafuerte each spent time on the mound, but none had any success shutting down the Scorpions' offence. Ozzie Canseco, twin brother of Scorpions player-manager and former MLB superstar slugger Jose Canseco, had the biggest hit of the game with a two-run double in the second inning.
It was the Andrew Romo show for the Scorpions in the second game, as the pitcher tossed all seven innings and struck out 13 Caps batters to pick up the win. Edmonton got an RBI double from first baseman Brent Metheny and an RBI single from left fielder Pete Tountas. Starter Alexander Francisco took the loss, while Tom Boleska and David Davidson also pitched for the Caps. Jose Canseco had a single, a double and one RBI in the win.
With their jam-packed seven-games-in-four-days series in the books, the Caps and Scorpions have Wednesday off before heading north back to Edmonton on Thursday to open a four-game series at TELUS Field. The series opener is another Thirsty Thursday presented by Hudsons Canadian Tap House and 100.3 The Bear, featuring $3 beer.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
